2014 World Cup: Germany vs Argentina

This Sunday Germany and Argentina will walk out on to the field at Estadio do Maracana in Rio De Janeiro for the 2014 World Cup Final. Following the Germany's near shut out against Brazil and Argentina's close win against the Netherlands, this Sundays final is sure to be a close match.

Germany, led by Thomas Muller, has won just 6 of their 10 matches in this World Cup and gathered 4 draws. However, overall the team has scored 28 goals in their 10 matches with 64 shots on target.

Argentina, led by FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi, has won 9 out of their 10 World Cup matches with only 1 draw against the Netherlands to move on from the Semi-Finals; scoring 28 goals overall as well with 61 shots on target.

Looking at the numbers from this World Cup, there is no doubt its going to be an on edge game but looking at past World Cups may show a different but still close game.

Germany has 18 World Cup appearances with 3 of those converting to championships, in 1954, 1974 and 1990, and 4 being runner ups. Argentina has 16 World Cup appearances with 2 championships, in 1978 and 1986, with only 2 runner ups.

This wont be the first time these two teams have met in the finals of a World Cup, in 1986 Argentina did defeat Germany 3-2 but in 1990 Germany got its revenge taking a 1-0 win over Argentina. Germany has beat Argentina more in a World Cup game, having a 4-1-1 record to Argentina's 3-2.

Prediction? Germany takes the win, but it surely wont be easy, and if Argentina comes through victorious that wouldn't be so shocking either.
