We've heard Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak say in the past that the Android OS is more functional than iOS and that Apple software like iTunes should be available for Android devices, in the same way Google software is on iOS, but in a recent interview with Wired the Woz is quoted as saying
“There’s nothing that would keep Apple out of the Android market as a secondary phone market.”
Apple has thrived with the iPhone for many years but with Android growing at a faster rate than iOS, it's not far fetched to think that if Apple doesn't improve the software to create the functionality of an Android device, it could eventually be lowered to the popularity of Microsoft's Windows Phone (Doubtful). It's not news to anybody that Apple can design very well, some believe that the look of the iPhone plays a huge role in it's popularity. Tie the design from Apple with the functionality of the open-platform Android software and there is the potential for an amazing device; Wozniak seems to agree, saying
"People like the precious looks of stylings and manufacturing that we do in our product compared to the other Android offerings. We could play in two arenas at the same time.”
While the concept seems well in theory, Wozniak does not play a role in the day-to-day workings at Apple anymore so, despite the money to be made in this idea, there is little chance of this happening, whether it be soon or in the future. Woz did offer a bit of encouragement for the idea,
“the great products really come from secret development,”he stated. Maybe, just maybe, Apple has already embraced the idea and it's in development but I wouldn't hold your breath.
