Samsung to unveil Galaxy S5 on February 24

Samsung will be unveiling the new addition to their Galaxy smartphone line up, the Galaxy S5, on February 24 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Invitations have been sent out for the press to attend an event titled Unpacked5.

The Galaxy S5 is rumored to have a 5 to 5.2 inch HD screen with 2560x1440 resolution. Some rumors indicate that the S5 will be flexible like the recent Galaxy Round but it is very unlikely. Samsung co-chief executive Shin Jong-Kyun said back in September that the company's next smartphones will feature 64-bit processors, similar to Apple's iPhone 5s, but it is unsure whether this will include the Galaxy S5. Rumors of 4GB of RAM have also been floating around in high numbers.

Aside from software, leaked images also suggest that the S5 may feature an aluminum design with faux-leather, similar to the Note 3, giving the phone a premium feel to that of the plastic S4 and its predecessors. Stacking on to the premium feel is that revamped TouchWiz interface. TouchWiz has long needed some refreshing and from the look of some leaked images (Below) the new interface features brightly colored blocks with easy access to sports results, messages, flight updates, fitness monitor, maps and local events.

There have been suggestions that the Galaxy S5 will run Samsung's Tizen OS but it's more likely that the S5 will run Android 4.4 KitKat. The camera is expected to get another upgrade from 13 to 16 megapixels with image stabilization. The S5 is also rumored to feature eye scanning technology in an attempt to gain an edge on Apple's fingerprint sensor.

While most of these specs are simply rumors, we do know that the Galaxy S5 is expected to get a huge upgrade in order to stay ahead of Apple's iPhone. We wont know the exact specifications of the Galaxy S5 until February 24th in Barcelona.
